How much will screw piles support?
The standard size we install is 3" which is capable of supporting over 15 000 lb, after a 3 to 1 safety factor is applied. Meaning they are tested at 45 000 lb.
Are screw piles better than concrete sono tubes?
Screw piles are a much better solution than traditional sono tubes for many different reasons. They do not require digging which is better for the environment and does not damage your property. They are significantly less work and require no time to cure which means you can start building your structure the same day!
From a cost perspective, if you add up the time and materials involved with installing concrete sono tubes the price is very comparible, sometimes even cheaper.
Another major advantage is the ability to monitor the soil conditions during the install. Different soil types have different bearing capacities and this is typically not factored in when typical sono tubes are being used.
How do screwpiles work?
Screw Piles utilize a screw flight located at the bottom of the shaft that threads itself into the soil. The Compressive force that it can support is dependent on a torque reading which is monitored during the install. The pile is installed until a torque level is achieved that meets the load bearing requirements of the project.
